VON DG’s Urges Collaboration between Media and Military for Enhanced National Security

Mallam Jibrin Ndace, Director General of Voice of Nigeria, VON, emphasized the need for effective coordination between the media and the military to address insecurity in Nigeria.

His statement came shortly after the launch of projects carried out by the Nigerian Army’s Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) in Minna, Niger State.

He urged his media colleagues for maximum cooperation to promote the full activities of the Nigerian Army, asserting that good reportage of military activities is crucial in securing Nigeria.

Mallam Ndace also commended the TRADOC Commandant’s commissioning of blocks of flats built to enhance the welfare of military personnel.

Furthermore, the TRADOC recognized Malam Jibrin Baba Ndace, Director General of the Voice of Nigeria (VON), for his significant commitment to promoting the activities of the Nigerian Army.

The award was presented by representatives of the Chief of Army Staff, Major General Sani Gambo Mohammed, who highlighted the DG’s integral role in the success of military operations against insurgency during his service as a field reporter with the Army.

The Nigerian Army acknowledged the DG’s exceptional efforts, expressing gratitude for his tremendous support, especially in their endeavors to restore the nation’s glory.

STRIKE UPDATE – UNIVERSITY NON-ACADEMIC STAFF'S UNIONS SETS TO EMBARK ON STRIKE OVER EXCLUSION FROM PAYMENT OF WITHHELD SALARIES.

The Chairman of the University of Ilorin chapter of SSANU, Olusola Falowo, said the union was surprised that note the neglect of its members in the payment of the withheld salaries.

Mr Falowo said the agitation for the release of the withheld funds was championed by the Joint Action Committee of SSANU and NASU, “even before the expiration of the term of the immediate past administration.”

He said: “We have continued to raise this same issue with the new administration, and I can confirm to you that even as early as last week the leadership of JAC still wrote the government on the need to pay our members.

“But I can assure our members that the national leadership is not sleeping over this matter. It will be logically resolved and very soon. The President of SSANU, I am aware, has been engaged in a series of meetings to address this.”

Meanwhile, calls by our reporter to the SSANU President, Mohammed Ibrahim, were not answered as his telephone line was engaged, and he was yet to call back as of the time of filing this report.

TRAGEDY AS OAU LOSSES STAFF TO LION ATTACK

The management, staff, students and the entire campus of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, have been thrown into mourning following the untimely death of Mr. Olabode Olawuyi.

A release by the Public Relations Officer of the University, Abiodun Olarewaju, stated that Mr Olawuyi, a Veterinary Technologist, who has been in charge of the Zoological garden for over a decade, was attacked this afternoon, Wednesday, 19th February, 2024, by a 9 – year old male lion when he was feeding them in their den at the Zoological garden of the University.

The other members of staff who were at the scene of the incident did everything within their power to rescue their boss but the wild cat had already caused severe fatalities.

On hearing the sad news, the management team, led by the Vice Chancellor, abruptly ended an on going meeting for an on the spot assessment 

Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adebayo Simeon BAMIRE, was informed, on arrival, by the Acting Director of the University Health and Medical Centre Dr. Tirimisiyu Olatunji, that all first aid and medical efforts to save the life of the victim proved abortive.

Saddened by this tragic event, the aggressive Lion has been euthanized.

Mr Olawuyi has been taking care of the lions since they were born on campus about 9 years ago but, tragically, the male Lion killed the man who had been feeding them.

The University management has sent a delegation to the widow and children of the deceased, imploring them to take solace in God who gives life and also has the power to take life.

Meanwhile, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adebayo Simeon BAMIRE, has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the immediate and remote causes of the incident.

May the soul of Mr. Olabode Olawuyi rest in peace.
