Nigeran CP presents Rabee, a notorious bandit leader, and 15 other suspects

Not less than fifteen suspects, including the infamous armed bandit Rabiu Yusuf, alias Rabee, have been arrested and paraded by the Niger State Police Command for various crimes such as banditry, kidnapping, and arms dealing in the state.

The state’s Commissioner of Police, CP Shawulu Ebenezer Damamman, disclosed this while presenting the suspects at the Command headquarters in Minna.

He revealed that the suspects were apprehended recently with the assistance of technical intelligence.

CP Damamman explained that apart from banditry, the suspects were involved in other offences such as car theft, defilement/rape, thuggery, and possession of illicit drugs.

He also divulged that the notorious armed bandit leader, Rabee, was a member of the Muware camp which was engaged in kidnapping activities across various parts of the state.

According to the Commissioner, the suspect was apprehended at Tungan-Mallam Market area of Paiko, in Paikoro local government area, by the Crack Squad team of the command.

He stated, “During interrogation, he confessed to numerous kidnapping activities and acknowledged his affiliation with the Muware camp of bandits that were terrorizing Beji, Maikunkele, Bosso, Gawu-Babangida, Sangeku, Bangi, Gulu, and Lapai areas of the State. The suspect is currently under investigation and is cooperating with the Police, providing more information that could lead to the arrest of others”.

The Commissioner further disclosed that four suspected kidnappers were arrested in connection with the abduction of a 20-year-old on 21 December 2023, when they raided a residence in Isana village via Nasko, Magama LG

The arrested individuals include Abubakar Hussaini, 25 years old from Anaba village, Nasko, Buba Mohammed, 35 years old from Maje village, Nasko, Mainasara Muhammadu, 26 years old from Takalafia, Ibeto-Nasko, and Ibrahim Abdullahi, 27 years old from Kontagora.

“During interrogation, the suspects admitted to the kidnapping of the victim and receiving a ransom of N1.6m for his release. Buba Mohammed also confessed to being part of another group that blocked Genge-Ibeto road on 21/12/2023 at around 2100hrs, kidnapped a female victim, gang-raped her, and received a ransom of N1m,” Damamman added.

Items recovered from the suspects include two locally fabricated guns – one single-barrel gun and five handsets.

All the suspects are currently under investigation at the Crack Squad unit, and efforts are underway to apprehend those at large.
