Challenges in the Relationship Between Davido and Sophia Momodu
David Adeleke, also known as Davido, is a popular celebrity in Nigeria and across Africa. However, his fame has been accompanied by various scandals and controversies.
The renowned pop star has frequently been at odds with Sophia Momodu, the mother of his first child, Imade.
The situation took a surprising turn when Tiwa Savage, a popular singer, filed a petition earlier in the week, alleging that Davido was harassing her due to her close relationship with Sophia.
In response, Sophia, through her legal representation at Punuka Attorneys and Solicitors, threatened to take legal action against the singer for alleged threats to her life, cyberbullying, and harassment.
She issued a ‘cease and desist’ letter to Davido, accusing him of making defamatory remarks and sponsoring negative publicity about her, despite a previous warning to stop.
The history of the relationship between Davido and Sophia has been marred by various issues. In January 2016, a scandal erupted when Imade, then only seven months old, was at the center of a dispute. Sophia and her uncle, media mogul Dele Momodu, raised concerns that Davido and his family were attempting to take Imade out of the country to Dubai without her mother’s consent.
Amidst the media frenzy, Imade was eventually reunited with her mother.
Davido countered the allegations at the time, claiming that Sophia had made excessive financial demands on him.
In a detailed social media post, he accused Sophia of neglecting her motherly duties, engaging in a reckless lifestyle, and exposing Imade to harmful environments.
Despite attempts to reconcile, tensions resurfaced between the co-parents in 2020. Reports emerged that Davido had traveled to Ghana with Sophia, which he denied on social media, emphasizing that he had only provided transportation for his daughter and her mother.
Meanwhile, on Davido’s 30th birthday in 2022, Sophia faced criticism for sharing Imade’s alleged birthday letter to her father, stirring further controversy.
In June 2023, Sophia claimed that Davido was neglecting his parental responsibilities, even contemplating changing Imade’s surname to reflect her significant role in raising her as both a father and mother.
There were also online allegations that Sophia had prevented Davido from seeing Imade due to unresolved demands, triggering public scrutiny.
Amidst the ongoing discord, concerns were raised for the emotional well-being of both Davido and Imade, highlighting the need for swift resolution through legal channels.
