The Foundation for Partnership Initiatives in Niger Delta Trains Over 300 Youths in ICT in Ondo State
An initiative by the Foundation for Partnership Initiatives in Niger Delta aims to provide entrepreneurial training to over 300 youths in Ondo State. The goal is to equip them with skills for gainful employment and to enable them to become employers after completing the training.
The training, part of the Youth Employment Pathways program, is being conducted in collaboration with implementing partners who will offer vocational training to the beneficiaries. The program is fully funded by the PIND.
The Youth Employment Pathways program, inaugurated in Akure, the state capital, is the fifth such initiative in the Niger Delta region, following successful implementations in Rivers, Abia, Akwa-Ibom, and Delta States. Since its inception in 2017, the program has already benefited approximately 5,000 youths.
Beneficiaries will undergo training in various disciplines including agriculture, Information Communication Technology, solar systems, building construction, fashion designing, and catering. The target demographic for the program includes women, youths, and people with disabilities aged between 16 and 30, with the duration of the training spanning a year.
Effiong Essien, the Programme Director of the PIND, highlighted the program’s objective of nurturing enterprise among the participants, ultimately leading to job placements or the establishment of their own businesses. He emphasized the plan to scale up training opportunities from hundreds to thousands over the years.
The PIND expressed appreciation for the government’s support in facilitating an enabling environment for their projects, and emphasized the anticipated positive impact on both the beneficiaries and the government through job creation and revenue generation.
Representing the Ondo State government, Owei Toikumo, from the office of the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth Empowerment, lauded the PIND’s decision to include Ondo State in the program and encouraged the expansion of the training to benefit more youths.
Commenting on the program, Mrs. Olayinka Akinpelu, a representative of Greenshiled Integrated Technology, Nigeria Limited, an implementing partner of PIND, underscored the profound benefits of the project for the youths. She emphasized the potential for employment or entrepreneurship opportunities for the beneficiaries in the state upon completion of the program.
