Professor Mahmood Hamid Umar is a seasoned administrator, scholar and expert in the field of rural development. With a wealth of experience and rich academic antecedent, he has made significant contributions to the understanding and advancement of strategies aimed at improving rural communities. His research spans various aspects of rural development, including sustainable agriculture, community empowerment, and environmental conservation.

Known for his dynamic teaching style, Professor Umar engages students with real-world examples and cases, fostering a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities in rural development in the various Universities he has worked. Beyond the classroom, he actively collaborates with local communities, government agencies, and international organizations to implement practical solutions that address the unique needs of rural areas. 

Taraba State University announces New Deputy Vice-Chancellor

Professor Mahmood’s commitment to bridging the gap between theory and practice has not only enriched academic discourse in rural development but has also positively impacted countless communities striving for sustainable growth and improved quality of life.

His career goal is to seek knowledge in developmental science, particularly its application towards sustainable food security, quality of life and environmental protection.

Prof. Mahmood was born 11th October, 1972 in Sardauna Local Government Area of Taraba State, Nigeria. 

Academic Journey, Prof. Mahmood started at Government Secondary School, Gembu between 1984-1989 where he obtained his SSCE. From there, his search for higher education took him to University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) and bagged B.Sc Degree in Agric Econs & Extension from 1992-1998. 

Like the oliver twist, Prof. Mahmood kept asking for more until he arrived at the pinnacle of the academia, at the Modibbo Adama University of Technology Yola, where he secured M.Sc and Ph.D. in Rural Development from 2002-2012. 

The erudite Professor has had many career stints with administrative experience in the University and outside. Few among others viz: NUC Resource verification for the proposed postgraduate programmes of the OSUN State University, MD/CEO MAUHAD GLOBAL LTD, Chairman Board of Trustees Dechi Health Trust Fund, Desk officer TETFund (staff training) TSUJ, Acting Dean, Faculty of Agriculture Taraba State University, Jalingo, Coordinator Consultancy Diploma Programmes, TSUJ, HOD Agric. Education F.C.E. Yola , ETF Desk Officer Staff Development and Training F.C.E. He has also served as head and member in several committees to render professional and community service related.

Prof. Mahmood has about 50 scholarly publications to his name including books, conference and seminar papers published locally and internationally by reputable organizations. He has supervised more than 20 students at the postgraduate level.
