Hensard University Collaborates with Nollywood Legend Zeb Ejiro and Scientists to Advance Creative Arts, Scientific & Climate Research

As part of its effort to promote academic excellence and innovation, Hensard University in Toru-Orua, Bayelsa State, has entered into partnerships with notable figures in the fields of Creative Arts, Sciences, and Climate Research. These collaborations aim to establish the Film School, Centre for Genomics and Bioscience, and Centre for Climate Research, positioning Hensard University as a leader in these disciplines.

Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, the Chancellor, engaged in productive discussions with Chief Zeb Ejiro, OON, a prominent figure in Nigeria’s film industry, and Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Association of Movie Producers of Nigeria. The focus of their meeting was on the development of the Film School and the Department of Film and Multimedia Studies.

Expressing his support for the initiative, Chief Ejiro commended the university’s capacity to nurture future creative entrepreneurs who can bring fresh perspectives to the film industry.

Senator Dickson emphasized that the Film School will equip aspiring artists with both knowledge and entrepreneurial skills, contributing to addressing existing gaps in the industry. He also announced the expansion of Agriculture scholarships to encompass the Department of Film and Multimedia Studies, Environmental Sciences, and ICT through the Henry Seriake Dickson Foundation.

Furthermore, Senator Dickson welcomed Dr. Nnaemeka Ndodo, a distinguished Molecular Bioengineer and former Chief Molecular Bioengineer of the National Reference Laboratory of the National Centre for Disease Control, to join Hensard University’s Centre for Genomics and Bioscience. He reaffirmed the university’s commitment to becoming a premier hub for scientific research, urging parents and students passionate about the Sciences to consider enrolling at Hensard University.

In addition, Hensard University has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Centre for Atmospheric Research of the National Space Research and Development Agency, NASRDA, as part of its commitment to strengthening Research Centres at its Faculty of Environmental Sciences. The collaboration aims to facilitate joint research activities, scientific workshops/conferences, staff exchange, capacity building, academic visits, student supervision, air quality and climate monitoring, and sensitization campaigns in the Niger-Delta region.

Hensard University will host an Atmospheric Science laboratory equipped with state-of-the-art instruments for research in air pollutants, meteorological variables, and climate observations, aligning with its goal to contribute to saving lives, the environment, and ecosystems.

Professor Dileep Kumar, the Vice Chancellor of the University, underscored the significance of the partnership, highlighting its focus on climate change mitigation and adaptation.

The Memorandum of Understanding aims to establish joint academic and scholarly cooperative linkages on teaching, research, and community services on climate change in Nigeria. It also includes the exchange of departmental and technical staff, joint projects execution, facilitation of access to funds from international organizations, provision of environmental and climate monitoring equipment, and the organization of joint conferences, seminars, and symposia.

Furthermore, the University looks forward to jointly sourcing and applying for research and project grants, enhancing teaching, research, and development in collaboration with NASRDA and NiMET.
