ASUP LAMENTS NON-PAYMENT OF SALARY
The National President of the Academic Staff of Polytechnic, ASUP Anderson Ezeibe has made available in an interview that, there are some Federal Polytechnic in Nigeria that are yet to received their January salary payment.
During the interview, Anderson reveal that, 14 Federal Polytechnics in Nigeria were affected, among the affected Polytechnics are Federal Polytechnic Ede, Federal Polytechnic Ilaro, Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Federal Polytechnic Bauchi, Auchi Polytechnic Auchi, Federal Polytechnic Offa, Kaduna Polytechnic, Federal Polytechnic Mubi, Federal Polytechnic Oko, Federal Polytechnic Bali, Federal Polytechnic Birni Kebbi, Federal Polytechnic Kaltungo, Federal Polytechnic Bida and Federal Polytechnic K/Namoda.
He said further that, Polytechnics in Nigeria started receiving their January salary payment on Monday, but excluding this 14 Polytechnics, and third-party charges fees was also excluding.
He explained further that, apart from the 14 Federal Polytechnics that are yet to receive their January salary payment, we still have some State Polytechnics that the Government are owing nothing less than 40 months salaries.
Among the affected states for the 40 months withheld salaries payment are Osun, Ondo, Abuja, Benue, Abia, Plateau and Ogun state.
Immediately we learnt of this acceptable development, we call for National Executive Council, NEC emergency meeting, which was held on Monday in other to engage the Minister of Education, Honorable Minister Adamu Adamu and report back to our National Executive Council, Anderson added.
This issues is uncalled for, with the state Affairs of the country at this present moment, everybody is struggling to survive especially we lecturers, we’re going through hard time presently.
The situation has caused disruption and misunderstood which has unsettle the sector, because we’ve received different reports and messages from the affected Polytechnics, he added.
He explained further, the renegotiation of the ASUP/FGN 2010 agreement memorandum which started in the year 2017 as been on paused after the submissions was made by the Union. The memorandum covers the issues affecting the Polytechnics system.
Among the issues are Certificate profile for Polytechnics, appropriate funding for Polytechnics, compensation package for Polytechnic Lecturers, post-service concerns of members, regulation/supervision issues and so on.
Since then, the Federal Government team is yet to get back to the union as regards our demands as contained in the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics charter of demands, despite assurances from the government.
Another outstanding issues is the dismissed of our Chairman in Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo which is yet to be recalled till this present moment.
