Yobe Women Rally for Justice Following Killing of Housewife
The Network of Women-led Civil Society Organizations in Yobe State has strongly denounced the murder of Ammi Adamu Mamman in Damaturu, the state capital.
Amid sleeping next to her husband on January 4, 2024, the woman was tragically killed.
According to NewsNow, the Police have detained her 43-year-old husband, Abubakar Musa, in connection with the murder.
In a statement released on Sunday, Chairperson of the Network, Barrister Altine Ibrahim, expressed the deep concern of women-led civil society organizations in the state regarding the circumstances of late Ammi Adamu’s death. She highlighted that Ammi was a volunteer for one of the member organizations.
“The Women-led Civil Society Network in Yobe State supports the ongoing investigation by the state’s security agencies into the recent alleged murder of late Ammi Adamu Mamman,” she stated.
“While urging the authorities to exhaust all avenues to ensure the perpetrator of this act faces the full force of the law, women groups in the state are resolute and vigilant,” she added.
Altine emphasized that the incident has sparked worries about the safety and security of women in their own homes.
“It is indeed deeply troubling if a woman is not secure even while asleep in her own bed, alongside her husband, who in our society is perceived as the family’s main source of protection,” she remarked.
She called on all civil society organizations and professional bodies within Yobe State and across the country to demand justice in this case.
Altine stressed the importance of bringing such atrocities to the forefront to prevent similar incidents and safeguard the rights and well-being of women in society.
“We are unwavering in our commitment to keep this matter in the spotlight and to sustain advocacy until justice for late Ammi Adamu Mamman is fully served,” she declared.
