Protest by Yobe Women Calls for Justice in Housewife’s Death
A peaceful protest was held by a group of women demanding justice for Ammi Adamu Mamman, a housewife who was allegedly killed by her husband while she was sleeping.
The women, representing diverse backgrounds, commenced the protest at August 27th Stadium Damaturu and marched to the State Ministry for Justice before concluding at the Yobe State House of Assembly.
During the demonstration, the women held placards with various messages such as ” #JUSTICE FOR AMMI,” “PERPETRATORS MUST BE EXPOSED AND JUSTICE BE SERVED,” and “NO TO VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN AND GIRLS,” among others.
Led by the State Commissioner of Humanitarian Affairs, Hajia Mairo Ahmed Amshi, the protesting women were received by the Deputy Speaker of the House, Ya’u Usman Dachia.
Amshi conveyed the group’s grievances to the Deputy Speaker and other members of the House, emphasizing their desire for justice in Ammi’s case.
Expressing the purpose of their protest, she said, “We are here to show our grievances. You must have heard what happened and I am sure as fathers and husbands, it is so disheartening for somebody to take the life of a human being.
“We are here seeking justice. We know that this House is serious in considering issues that affect the lives of the people of Yobe State. From the passing of the bill on Gender-Based Violence, (GBV) that was passed by His Excellency Governor Mai Mala Buni, we know the type of House of Assembly we have,” she said.
It was previously reported by NewsNow that Ammi Adamu Mamman was allegedly killed by her 43-year-old husband, who is currently in police custody.
Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has also promised that anyone involved in the death of Ammi Adamu Mamman will be brought to justice.
