EFCC Grills Former APC Governor Soon After Leaving Office

Ilorin, Kwara Kayode Fayemi, the former governor of Ekiti State, has been said to be under interrogation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). According to The Punch, the former minister is being grilled at the Ilorin chapter of the anti-graft agency.

The paper reported that some reliable sources disclosed that the chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) arrives at the EFCC office in Ilorin at about 9:40 am on Thursday, June 1.
The sources further disclosed that Fayemi is currently under grilling by the operative of the anti-graft agency over alleged misappropriation of N4bn.

Another source then said: “I’m not sure whether he’d be released today or detained. However, he’s not the only former governor that’s currently being probed by the commission.”

Latest about EFCC, Kayode Fayemi, Ekiti State

According to The Cable, the interrogation is in connection with the funds he handled when he was Ekiti state governor.
Fayemi was the governor of Ekiti State between 2018 and 2022, which was his second term as the administrator of the state.
He had earlier governed the state between 2010 and 2014 under the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and lost his re-election bid to Ayodele Fayose. The former governor was the foundational member of the APC and became ex-President Muhammadu Buhari’s minister in 2015 before he recontested in 2018 and won.
It was further reported that the former governor earlier wrote to the EFCC requesting for a delay in the invitation over the alleged misappropriation of funds.

“Vacate EFCC office now”, Tinubu tells DSS

Fedpolygist earlier reported that Bola Tinubu, the new Nigerian president, has ordered that the DSS should immediately vacate the office of the EFCC it was occupying. Earlier on Tuesday morning, it was reported that the secret police stormed the Lagos office of the anti-graft agency, claiming that it building belonged to the DSS.
Tunde Rahman, the personal media aide to Tinubu, in a statement, said the president noted that issues between 2 government agencies should be resolved amicably.

As reported by NewsNow, Barrister Akpata was announced as the party’s candidate following a governorship primary held in Benin City on Friday, with the Deputy Governor of Abia State, Engr Ikechukwu Emetu, making the declaration. Barrister Akpata clinched the candidacy with 316 votes, surpassing other contenders.

Meanwhile, the Apapa-led faction of the party submitted the names of its candidate and deputy governorship candidate to the National Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in a letter dated February 22, 2024, addressed to Abuja.

The letter, signed by Alhaji Lamidi Apapa as the Acting National Chairman and Alhaji Saleh Lawan as the Acting National Secretary, was seen on various social media platforms, including the Edo State Labour Party’s WhatsApp group.

The governorship candidate was identified as Barrister Anderson Uwadiae Asemota, paired with Barrister Monday Ojore Mawah as the running mate in the primary held in Benin City on February 22, 2024, as listed by Apapa.

Confirmation of the letter was given by Apapa over a phone call, where he simply affirmed, “Yes, it is true. The letter is from us.”

In his remarks, the committee chairman, Tukur Jikamshi, expressed gratitude for the confidence placed in the committee by the party leadership. Yobe East Senatorial by-election: APC’s Mustapha emerges victorious [See Result]

The victory in the Yobe East senatorial by-election has been clinched by Musa Mustapha, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday. The Returning Officer, Ibrahim Ahmed Jajere, disclosed that Mustapha secured the highest number of votes.

Mustapha, representing the APC, garnered 68,778 votes, defeating his closest competitor, Aji Kolomi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who obtained 18,878 votes. The total number of votes cast was 90,949, with 88,771 votes deemed valid and 2,178 votes rejected.

Associate Professor Ibrahim Ahmed Jajere, the Returning Officer, certified the results, declaring Mustapha as the winner and elected candidate. Mustapha, also known as Coolers, previously served as the Commissioner for Finance in Yobe State.
