REDEEMER’S UNIVERSITY APPOINTS NEW PROVOST FOR COLLEGE OF POSTGRADUATE STUDIES

The Redeemer’s University’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Anthony Akinlo, has appointed Professor Olalere Adeyemi, as the new Provost of the College of Postgraduate Studies of the institution. His appointment takes effect from 7th March 2023.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Prof. Adeyemi is an alumnus of the University of Ibadan, where he obtained both a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree in Chemistry and a Master of Science degree in Analytical Chemistry in 1988 and 1991 respectively. Professor Adeyemi later continued his postgraduate work at the University of Ilorin, Kwara State, where he successfully defended his Ph.D. in 1999 and was awarded the Doctor of Philosophy in Organometallics Chemistry in 2000.

His bench work for his doctoral degree was carried out at the Structural Chemistry Laboratory, Institute of Chemistry, Academia Sinica, Taipei, Taiwan, with the aid of the Taiwanese National Science Council Research Assistance Grant under Professor Ling-Kang, Liu from 1997 to 1999. He later proceeded to the School of Chemistry, University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, for his postdoctoral fellowship in 2001 under Professor Neil J. Coville. In 2007, he also won a research fellowship of the DST and NRF of South Africa, tenable at the School of Chemistry, University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg under Professor N.J. Coville.

He is a two-time recipient of The World Academy of Science (TWAS) visiting scholar at the Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry, China under Professor Jinkui Tang. He attended International Summer School on Radiochemistry, Lomonosov Moscow State University, Russia, and LC-MS Training: A hands-on Approach at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, Kenya. In 2019, he proceeded to the University of Jena, Germany, through a fellowship from Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (German Research Foundation) in Professor Plass’s laboratory.

 

 

 

 

 

The new CGPS provost is a member of several professional bodies and an external examiner to many universities in Nigeria. He holds membership in several prestigious professional bodies.  He is a member of the American Chemical Society, Royal Society of Chemistry (United Kingdom), Chemical Society of Nigeria, and Science Association of Nigeria, among others. He is the immediate past Dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences, at Redeemer’s University, and Chairman of several Committees at the University. As a man of uncommon passion and an adherent believer in Project RUN, he has continued to team-work with various individuals within and outside the University to attract development projects to achieve the founding ideals and vision of the institution’s proprietors over the years.
