According to Next Gen Personal Finance, about 63% of undergraduates received at least one grant or scholarship to help them cover tuition costs as of 2021.
College scholarships can help students afford the increasingly high cost of higher education. Tracking down scholarships and grants doesn’t need to be a challenge if you know where to look.
If you’re interested in learning how to get scholarships for college, you can start by exploring the 12 resources below.
1. Federal Student Aid
All students should fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Through this application, the federal government evaluates your financial need and tells you what financial aid you qualify for. Keep in mind that most federal awards are based on need instead of merit.
2. BestColleges
At BestColleges, we’ve put together extensive scholarship guides to help you research financial aid options in one place. Users can search for scholarships, fellowships, grants, prizes, and loans.
6. Scholarship America
Scholarship America strives to break down the barriers that keep students from accessing the financial aid they need to be able to afford higher education. To date, the organization has provided $4.5 billion in scholarships to 2.8 million recipients. Students can browse available scholarships, filtering the results by state.
7. Peterson’s
Peterson’s offers college and test prep for students hoping to further their postsecondary education. Visitors to the Peterson’s website can search through a directory of scholarships for college students from over 4,000 providers.
In addition, the company offers its own scholarship. Called the “World’s Easiest Scholarship,” the $2,500 award only requires interested students to enter basic information to apply.
8. Unigo
Unigo aims to connect students to financial aid, running a database of millions of college scholarships and grants. You simply create an account and fill out a personal profile, which will enable you to browse scholarships that match your demographic and academic information.
The site also offers helpful categories like “easy scholarships” and “$10,000 scholarships.”
9. Chegg
Described as a student-first learning platform, Chegg focuses on improving the return on investment for education. Part of that mission includes providing a scholarship database with over 25,000 opportunities. High school and college students alike can search for scholarships and find matches based on their personal and academic profiles.
10. Cappex
A platform that connects students to colleges, Cappex helps students find colleges and search for scholarships and financial aid opportunities. On this site, you can search for scholarships by demographic. These include scholarships for women, Black students, Hispanic students, LGBTQ+ students, and first-generation students.
11. Scholarships.com
This site has been helping students search for college scholarships since 1998. With millions of scholarships in the Scholarships.com database, students can find scholarships that fit their specific circumstances. This resource also breaks down scholarships by type, such as awards for athletes, veterans, and Hispanic students.
12. Niche
Niche isn’t just an educational resource — it also aims to help people find out where they belong, whether that’s a school or neighborhood. The site provides several tools to help students discover their place in higher education. One such tool is a college scholarship search, which allows you to search for awards by major or demographic information.

The High Court sitting in the Federal Capital Territory has ordered that the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, be remanded in the Kuje Correctional Centre pending the determination of his bail request.
Emefiele will remain in prison until November 22, when the court will deliver a ruling on his bail motion.
His lead counsel, Mathew Burkaa SAN, moved the application for bail which Rotimi Oyedepo vehemently opposed on behalf of the Federal Government.
After taking arguments for and against the application, Justice Hamza Muazu said a bench ruling could not be delivered in view of the plethora of authorities cited by the two parties.
The Judge said he needed a little time to study the authorities and peruse through the exhibits supplied by Emefiele to support his request for bail.
At the time of this report, officials of the Kuje prison authority have been contacted to bring a vehicle to convey him to prison.

Former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Godwin Ifeanyi Emefiele, was finally arraigned on corruption charges by the Federal Government on Friday at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory.
Emefiele, dressed in blue Guinea Brocade babaringa with a Hausa cap to match, was brought to court for arraignment by his lead counsel Mathew Burkaa, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, in compliance with an order of court.
The former apex bank head, who was accused of conferring corruption advantages on a staff of CBN, Mrs Saadat Ramalan Yaro, through awards of various contracts, however, denied the six count charges.
A Senior Advocate of Nigeria SAN, Rotimi Oyedepo, led the legal team of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, which is prosecuting the defendant on behalf of the Federal Government.
At the time of this report, a fierce legal battle was ongoing on the request for Emefiele’s bail pending his trial.
Justice Hamza Muazu is expected to make a ruling on the bail request.

Mikel Obi has spoken about the entitlement mentality displayed by family members in Africa once a member of the family makes money.
During a chat with former footballer Rio Ferdinand, Obi revealed that family members become so greedy that they sometimes threaten to go to the press to tarnish your image if you don’t continue to offer financial assistance.
Using his own experience as an example, he said, “You get threatened by your own blood. Your own brothers and sisters.”
He continued: “When you come from Africa, when you make money, it’s not your money. You have all these relatives, cousins, whatever you call it.
“And your sisters, they go off and they get married to some guy who just wants to get married into John Obi Mikel’s family because then ‘my life is sorted’. And then you start looking after this guy. Before you know it… they keep having so many kids and so many kids. And you look at it, OK, ‘You’re having this much kids, who’s going to look after them?’ It’s you. For them you owe them that.
“So sometimes you have to be strong and say, you know what guys, ‘enough is enough. I don’t care’.
“They give you this thing whereby, ‘if you don’t do it, were going to go to the press’.”
His listeners were shocked and asked, “What? Did you have that conversation?”
Mikel replied, “Yeah, yeah.”
