OLABISI ONABANJO UNIVERSITY (OOU) GETS NEW BURSAR

The Governing Council of the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye has approved the appointment of Mr. Olufemi Stephen Sowunmi, FCA, as the Bursar of the University.

The appointment was ratified at its 210 meeting held on Thursday, 21st September, 2023, and will take effect from Thursday, 14th December, 2023, for a period of five (05) years.

Olabisi Onabanjo University appoints a new Bursar

Mr. Olufemi Stephen Sowunmi, a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, was born on March 20, 1972 in Funtua, Katsina State. He had his Secondary School Education at Sango-Ota High School, Sango-Ota, Ogun State between 1983 and 1987 and later at Anglican Grammar School, Okenla, Ifo, Ogun State from 1987 to 1988. His quest for further Education took him to the Federal Polytechnic, llaro Ogun State, where he obtained a Higher National Diploma (H.N.D.) in Science Laboratory Technology in 1994 with a Distinction Grade. He became an Associate Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria in 2000, and a Fellow in 2014. He also bagged a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) Honours Degree in Accounting with Second Class Upper Division from Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye in 2009.

Mr. Sowunmi joined the services of the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-lwaye in November 2003, as a Principal Accountant in the Bursary Department. He has worked in various Units of the Bursary including Final Accounts; Reconciliation and Due Process; Treasury, Treasury and Information Management, and as the College Accountant, College of Agricultural Sciences, Ayetoro. Mr. Sowunmi became a Deputy Bursar on October 1, 2017, and is currently the Deputy Bursar/Accountant, Postgraduate School of the University.

He has served as the Finance Officer and Chairman Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) OOU Branch Welfare Scheme, Chairman, Bursary Department Committee on Fixed Assets Book Keeping Procedure (2006), Secretary, Governing Council Sub-Committee on Banking Relationship (June 2009), Secretary, Committee on the Monitoring and Enhancement of e-collection for School Fees (Operation & Reconciliation) (2008-2009), Member, 2012/2013 Post UTME Technical Sub-Committee, Member, University Administrative Committee on the Review & Evaluation of Promotion Criteria for Senior Non-Teaching Staff (2010), Member, University Committee on the Implementation of Monetization Policy (2006), Member, University Learned Conference Committee (2004-2007), and President, Olabisi Onabanjo University Senior Staff Cooperative Multipurpose Society (2014-2019).
