As the clock struck midnight, signaling the arrival of the new year, Nigerians were filled with excitement and anticipation.

Many people reflected on their experiences in 2023 and expressed their hopes for a year free from the challenges of the past.

The year brought significant changes, including a transfer of power in the government after the general election.

Notable events included the removal of the fuel subsidy by President Bola Tinubu during his May 29 inauguration ceremony and the ‘controversial’ redesigning of the naira notes by the Central Bank of Nigeria.

Despite the difficulties, both the government and the citizens remained hopeful that the new year would bring much-needed relief.

Many citizens rang in the New Year on Sunday night with spectacular firework displays, lighting up the skies across the nation.

As the rest of the world rejoiced in the New Year, Sydney led the way as one of the first major cities to welcome 2024. It reinforced its reputation as the “New Year’s Eve capital of the world” with stunning fireworks displays over Australia’s Sydney Harbour and New Zealand’s tallest structure, the Sky Tower in Auckland.
