16-Member Governing Council Inaugurated by Governor Bago

At the Government House, Minna, Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago of Niger State inaugurated a 16-member governing council for the recently founded state-owned Abdulkadir Kure University of Education, Minna.

Bago emphasized the state government’s commitment to prioritizing education across all levels, from basic to tertiary. He also mentioned the imminent establishment of the University of Agriculture and Climate Change, Mokwa, and the University of Technology and Innovation, Zungeru.

Addressing the council members, Bago expressed gratitude for their alignment with the “New Niger” vision and assured them that funding had been secured for the institution’s launch. He also mentioned the establishment of a committee to oversee the institution’s continuous development.

Furthermore, Bago revealed plans to transform the University of Education into a conventional university to address the shortage of professionals in fields such as medicine, aviation, science, technology, and climate change.

The governor also announced the introduction of scholarships for public school students who achieve five credits, including English and Mathematics, enabling them to pursue studies at the university.

Highlighting the significance of investing in the IBBU Lapai Teaching Hospital, Minna, Bago emphasized its role in serving all state universities offering medical and other health science-related courses.

Prof Mohammed Yahaya Kuta, the Pro-Chancellor of Abdulkadir Kure University of Education, Minna, revealed that the National Universities Commission had approved 41 programs, 14 of which would be implemented in the 2023–2024 academic session. He also disclosed the NUC’s approval of a 3,000 admission quota and the initiation of admission processes through the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board.

The university’s 16-member governing council comprises key figures such as the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Muhammad Aliyu Paiko, and council members including Dr Garba Abdullahi, Hajiya Hajara Kuso, Dr Abubakar Abdullahi, Garba Muhammad Shambo, Maryam Suloboyi, Haijya Kere Ahmed, Muhammad Dattijo Usman, Barrister Abbas Bello, Hajiya Hassana Adamu, Abdullahi Lawal Maikano, Hamidu Jantabo Mu’azu, and Abdullahi Adamu Mamagi.
